Sending Flowers to Australia and Internationally

September 8th, 2010 Posted in General Posts

When living apart from friends or family, sometimes you may be required to send flowers interstate or perhaps even overseas.   Finding the right florist can be confusing and daunting as you may be unfamiliar with international procedures.  There will be many florists online claiming to deliver to your location same day, with free delivery and other benefits, but be wary, many of these promises are often never fulfilled. Your best choice is to search for a florist in the city your sending to.  You will know this by looking at their contact page.  There should be a local address listed there.  When sending  flowers to Melbourne then Star Florist can arrange a beautiful bouquet of flowers for any occasion.  We deliver fresh flowers to Melbourne same day, seven days a week.  All our produce is ordered fresh from the Melbourne Flower Centre.  Sending flowers to Australia can be a little more difficult because the Searches may not always bring local florists when you do a search. The best thing to do is use an Australian Florist that specialises in Interstate and International flower delivery.  This way you can be sure that they deliver your flowers to the destination you choose.  For Sydney customers, you will find Florist Works Sydney has a great selection of flowers and gifts to choose from online.

Remember, there are many shops online to choose from, but its always best to look around and see whats available before purchasing.

or relatives in Melbourne for special occasions such as birthdays or newborns.  There are people who also work abroad and may miss an anniversary, so they choose Star Florist to send a thoughtful bouquet of flowers online.  Star Florist takes the guesswork out of sending flowers to Melbourne.  Our range is extensive with over 200 arrangements to choose from Online.  And if your still not sure what to send then you can always select a ‘Surprise Me‘ arrangement which allows the florist to design something creative herself/himself.

Choosing the right product may sound daunting, because you may not know what flowers they like, what they are allergic too or which product is the best choice.   The website has been categorised by occasions and by prices.  This allows you to go directly to the category you wish and help find the most appropriate gift to send.  Remember though, there is no right or wrong gift.  It’s always up to personal preference when sending a gift.  In the end, it’s really the thought of sending a gift that matters and that is of importance.

Finding the right Baby Gift

August 26th, 2010 Posted in General Posts

Choosing the right product for a baby is always daunting.  Will the mother like it? Does she already have one?  There are so many great products on the market and such a variety, it makes it hard to settle on the one gift.  Sending flowers to the hospital is always a great way to celebrate the birth of a new baby.   Selecting the right flowers comes down to a couple simple decisions such as gender of the child, and flowers the mother prefers and style.  Generally speaking, if the mother has had a baby girl, you will send pink/pastel toned flowers and if she’s had a baby boy you will send blue/yellow toned flowers.  Selecting the size, style and colours is up to you, there is no really right or wrong answer.

Recently, there has been a change in the gifts that we have been sending as newer generations are looking for more personalised and unique gifts.  We have introduced a baby flowers and gift sets category, which includes flowers bundled with gift sets.   They are a great idea if you wish to send mum flowers and a gift set also.   Star Florist is always changing it’s products and releasing new baby gift ideas, so be sure to check back regularly.

Things to consider when buying baby gifts:

  • Gender of the child
  • Is it unique
  • Colour schemes
  • Will the mother already have one

Roses and their Sources

August 20th, 2010 Posted in Flower Information

Most consumers purchase products online or in physical stores without knowing much about the origin of the product.  Sadly to say, this happens for most products that are purchased and the trend is increasing with so many products of ours being sourced from overseas.   With competition so fierce in the marketplace,  retailers turn to suppliers who will offer the lowest prices, and herein lies the problem. So, how do Roses and flowers in general fit in with all this?

Star Florist purchases it’s Roses from two of Melbourne’s largest local Rose growers.   Grandiflora Roses and Boon Roses.  They are synonymous with quality Roses and we can always ensure that we are supplied with daily cut Roses.   There are however florists that use Imported Roses. Roses from Peru, Equador, Chile and other parts of the world.  They are significantly cheaper than local Roses and there is a reason for this.   They are freeze packed tightly in boxes and sent by aeroplane.  Delays in flight times and at customs can leave the Roses stranded in these boxes for days without water.   To make matters worse, once the Roses arrive at Melbourne Customs they are inspected and must be fumigated.  Fumigation is a method of pest control that completely fills an area with poisonous gaseous pesticides—or fumigants—to suffocate or poison the pests within.  Residue from these Roses may even create allergies for sensitive people.  For all these reasons combined you can see why imported Roses have a very short lifespan and why Star Florist has absolutlety no affiliation with importers or wholesalers of importers.

When using Star Florist, you can be sure that we only use fresh locally grown Melbourne Roses.

Self Raising Flower Joke

August 10th, 2010 Posted in Humour

Tom and his wife Grace were attending a Marriage Seminar dealing with communication. The instructor there stated that, “It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other.”

The instructor addressed Tom and said to him, “Can you describe your wife’s favourite flower?”

Tom leaned over, touched his wife’s arm gently and whispered, “It’s self-raising, isn’t it?”
