Ranunculus in Season

September 14th, 2010 Posted in Flower Information

Weather is looking up in Melbourne, the days are getting longer and warmer and we are starting to see a shower of Spring flowers coming into the Market.  Ranunculus is one that we fancy quite a bit.  Ranunculus are Spring flowers and have started appeared in the local Melbourne Flower Market. (September 10th)  They are in Season for 3-4 weeks then unfortunately we do not see them

again until next year :(   They would have to be the brightest and most colourful flowers on the marketplace.  Some species of Ranunculus have thickened rhizomes that were once considered a type of corm. The word ‘Ranunculus’ is Latin for little frog, a name given by the Roman Pliny because of the wet conditions in which these plants are often found.  In some places thet are considered a weed!  Although Star Florist does not stock the Ranunculus, you will find that most local florists will display them in the field section of their diaplay.  Since they are outdoor flowers, they are not considered in the same group as Roses, Orchids, Lilies. They are relatively cheap and quite ubundant when they are in Season.  They come in many colours, Pink, Yellow, Red, Orange, White and other pastel colours are only just a few.
